Precious pearls of Blessed Alphonse Marie

She is a woman of contemplation who often repeats throughout her life: „It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me“ (Gal 2,20).

Without hesitation she obeys the Lord’s call: „Do not be afraid, it is my work!“ and goes on developing the charism.

In times of trial she encourages the sisters: „Study your Divine Master unceasingly, meditate on him day and night, so that you may shape your life according to his.“

In formation she relies greatly on God’s help and urges: “Jesus, my Divine Bridegroom, receive these children, take their hearts as your own possession… and form them according to your will.”

She impresses upon the sisters trust in the Virgin Mary: “The Mother of God will never refuse you anything.”

Not for a moment does she waver about God’s goodness, and she cries out: “Know that God’s mercy has no bounds.”

In nursing she urgently calls upon the sisters: “Never refuse the sick anything, for what you refuse them you refuse to the Saviour himself.”

She is a woman of deep prayer when she says: “True prayer comes from the heart.”

She passed through suffering of every kind and boldly gives courage: “Let suffering sadden neither your face nor your thoughts.”

She is a woman of the Church and often repeats: “To the Holy Father, as head of the Church, I have shown respect, love and absolute devotion. How fortunate I am to be a child of the true Church!”

She is a woman of humanity when she gives heart to everyone: “I love sinners with sincere tenderness; I see in them only creatures of God, the object of his love.”

She is a woman of ecumenism, as they say of her: “She cared also for Protestants and for all without distinction who asked her for help, and gave them devoted care with love.”

She is a woman of dialogue when she encourages: „God will bless what you say in his name.“

She is a woman with a deep sense of family, when without hesitation: “She took in abandoned poor children and cared for them so that they received the upbringing they needed.”

She is a woman of the peripheries, because from the very beginning of the foundation: “Day and night she hastened to serve the poor and the sick, above all the dying in their own homes.”
