The Way to Beatification
Beatification 2018
The culmination of a cause more than seventy years long — the solemn act in Notre Dame Cathedral in Strasbourg on the ninth of September 2018.
Explanation
What beatification is
By beatification the Church presents a person as an example of Christian life for a particular country, diocese or community — by canonization this veneration is later extended to the whole Church. A beatified person may first be venerated publicly in the liturgy of the local Church, and after canonization in the universal Church.
During the Eucharistic celebration the diocesan bishop asks the legate of the Holy Father — the cardinal prefect — for the beatification, and he answers this request with an Apostolic Letter, the liturgical formula declaring the person blessed.
The road to the rite
Spiritual and organizational preparation
The time before the beatification of the foundress of the congregation was marked by preparation on both the spiritual and the organizational level. Sisters all over the world supported the preparation above all by prayer; catecheses, meetings and homilies on her life and virtues were added. The preparations were in full swing especially in the Mother House at Oberbronn.
The beatification of the Alsatian foundress was in 2018 a major event for the Diocese of Strasbourg as well, which took on the organization that went with it.
